Collective Design Returns With a Shoppable Virtual Showcase
Industry favorite Collective Design returns November 3 with a limited event entitled “On the Edge” as part of its online exhibition series “Public Access,” which aims to provide insider access to all. The virtual (and shoppable) showcase of furniture, lighting, and ceramics features works by innovative studios and designers selected from Source, Collective Design’s bespoke platform connecting design professionals with vetted design studio collaborators.
“Since its founding, expanding the audience for collectible design has been at the heart of our ethos,” says architect, founder, and creative director Steven Learner. “As buying habits have changed and design is experiencing a growing audience, we wanted to find a new way to offer our insider’s view and personal relationships in the community to both seasoned collectors and those new to design.”
“On the Edge” features a group of collectible design objects that explore the idea of balance, an apropos metaphor for today’s times. Some standouts from the 40 plus included works: the exclusive Crunchy Mirror series in gold and silver leaf by Yolande Milan Batteau of Callidus Guild and Rhode Island School of Design grad Will Choui’s WCL, a nod to the Eames’ LCW chair produced in a skeletal polished stainless steel frame. Stacklab offers an exclusive edition of their Garrison stool in a custom, blackened bronze finish. Other design world wonders contributing pieces include Fort Standard, Hector Esrawe, Cody Hoyt, and Slash Objects.
Over the coming year Collective Design will present periodic shows featuring colleagues in the design community as guest curators, offering an opportunity to bring their point of view to these public-facing events. “On the Edge” will be on view through November 19.
